Elvis makes his first appearance in a horse magazine

There was yet another horse who appeared in my school books. Elvis the Western Horse can actually trace his hair-do back to the times when Stray Cats first was a big hit. And I have to be honest - I disliked the band. Full stop. And of course my best friend adored them. I remember what an effect Brian Setzer´s hair style had on me. (Brr... cold shivers still...) And so, of course, I had to draw that hair somewhere. And as I was painting horses all over the place anyway, one horse got the honor of trying on the hair style. And as I expected he looked quite funny. Then I painted the hair black and voilá: Elvis the Comic Horse was looking back at me. I mean seriously - no way could I call him Brian anymore with that fifties´ style black hair. He had to be Elvis.

And so he became a Western horse also. Couldn´t think of a horse called Elvis being anything else but American. And to me American horse meant Western horse. And as horses usually have a human they can call their own, Lili made her apprearance alongside Elvis. (Hubby thinks she is my alter-ego, but I think I´ll just check out what this couple is up to before I admit to anything.)

Still - when Hubert made his entrance to Hasfocus (the excellent Swedish horse magazine), the editor of the magazine asked would I have any Western horse I might turn into a comic horse character as well. You guessed it - wasn´t hard to convince Elvis he was the right horse for the job. First of all he loves publicity and has a huge ego. And secondly he at least is conviced he is very photogenic. So good luck for Elvis on his journey to success - at least he has a good name-sake role-model.

Elviksen ensiesiintyminen hevoslehdessä

Koulukirjoihini ilmestyi toinenkin hevonen. Lännenhevonen Elvis sai hiustyylinsä ajoilta, jolloin Stray Cats oli suuri hitti. Ja jos rehellisiä ollaan, en pitänyt yhtyeestä lainkaan. Paras ystäväni tietenkin jumaloi bändiä. Muistan vieläkin minkä vaikutuksen Brian Setzerin hiustyyli minuun teki (hrrr... kylmiä väreitä...) Ja niinpä minun tietysti piti piirtää kyseinen kampaus jonnekin. Ja koska nyt piirtelin hevosia joka paikkaan muutenkin, yksi hevosista sai kunnian kokeilla hiustyyliä. Kuten oletinkin, hevonen näytti aika huvittavalta. Sitten maalasin kampauksen mustaksi ja kas - sarjakuvahevonen Elvishän se siinä. Enhän voinut mitenkään kutsua häntä Brianiksi tuolla mustalla fiftaritukalla. Nimen oli pakko olla Elvis.

Ja niin hänestä tuli myös lännenhevonen. Elvis-nimisen hevosen oli pakko olla amerikkalainen. Minulle amerikkalainen hevonen tarkoitti lännenhevosta. Ja koska hevosilla nyt yleensä on oma ihminen, Lili ilmestyi Elviksen viereen. (Mieheni mielestä Lili on alter-egoni, mutta taidanpa hiukan tarkkailla parin kommervenkkejä ennen kuin myönnän mitään).

Kun Hubert teki ensiesiintymisensä Hästfocusiin (erinomainen ruotsalainen hevoslehti), lehden päätoimittaja kysyi josko minulla olisi lännenhevosta, joka voisi muuntua sarjakuvahevoseksi. No, arvaahan sen ettei ollut vaikea vakuuttaa Elvis siitä että hän oli oikea hevonen tähän hommaan. Ensinnäkin hän rakastaa julkkiksena oloa ja hänellä on todella suuri ego. Ja siksi toisekseen hän ainakin omasta mielestään on hyvin valokuvaukselleinen. Joten onnea vaan Elvikselle matkalla maineeseen. Ainakin hänellä on mitä parhain roolimalli kaimassaan.
